Anti-Wrinkle treatment
The structure of your skin is a network of collagen and elastin fibres which are interlaced, giving your skin its strength, elasticity and smoothness.
As you get older, collagen and elastin production reduces, and the skin loses its ability to remain supple. The other change that occurs is that the deeper (subcutaneous) layers of the skin begin to lose fat, causing the skin to become thinner and more transparent. As a result, the skin doesn’t spring back into place after facial movements such as a frown or a smile, forming fine lines, furrows and wrinkles.
This is the natural ageing process. However, other influencing factors which speed up the ageing process include prolonged or regular exposure to UV light (sunshine and tanning beds), smoking, dehydration and pollutants in the environment.
Anti-wrinkle injections have been used successfully for over twenty years to smooth fine lines and wrinkles. The technique is a non-surgical treatment to prevent the formation of wrinkles or to smooth out existing creases.
How Does Anti-Wrinkle Treatment Work?
Anti-wrinkle injections contain muscle relaxants or neuromodulators derived from the bacteria Clostridium Botulinum, a natural and purified protein that is made from bacteria in a similar way that penicillin is made from mould.
They work by blocking the nerve signals (from the brain) to the muscle in the skin. The muscles relax and prevent the skin from wrinkling which smooths the wrinkle.
Anti-wrinkle injections are safe and have been used in the medical and aesthetic industry for over twenty years. They are approved for use by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) Australia.
What Can Anti-Wrinkle Treatments Be Used For?
Anti-wrinkle injections can safely and effectively be used for different parts of the face. They can smooth out frown lines between the eyebrows, crows feet or laughter lines around the eyes, creases in the forehead and wrinkles around the jaw.
How Many Treatments Will You Need?
In most cases, anti-wrinkle injections will last three to four months before lines slowly begin to return. Different areas of the face require a different number of treatments and the number of treatments also depends on the individual’s lifestyle. For example, if you spend more time in the sun, you may find that you need more treatments.
