Clinical Peels
A clinical peel or chemical peel is a method used to induce rapid exfoliation of the skin, turning over skin cell production faster and stimulating collagen production. A peel is applied to the surface of the skin and penetrates through the layers. The stronger the peel, the deeper it goes.
Clinical or chemical peels have been used since the mid 1980’s but developed more popularity in the 1990’s and used widely today. Peels can significantly improve the appearance of skin imperfections resulting in:
- A more youthful and fresher appearance
- Smoother and more toned skin
- Even texture, tone and colour
How does a clinical peel work?
The enzymes and acids in a peel will induce a controlled wound to the skin and this stimulates the skin’s healing response, turning over skin cells faster and increasing the production of collagen.
Clinical peels are made of a combination of enzymes and acids. At Skintech Medical, we use professional strength peels with a blend of vitamins, antioxidants, enzymes and carefully integrated Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA’s) and Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHA’s).
We Offer Two Types Of Peels:
Lactic Acid based peel
Lactic Acid is an AHA which is hydrating and suited to dry, mature and sensitive skin. This peel is excellent for restoring and rejuvenating the skin’s surface, maintaining moisture levels and treating fine lines, blemishes and texture.
Glycolic based peel
This type of peel is able to penetrate a little deeper to remove layers of the skin and therefore damaged skin cells. We offer this treatment to help remove age spots, fine lines, wrinkles, freckles, mild photodamage and acne.
Sometimes a deeper peel with a more powerful blend of Lactic, Salicylic and Glycolic acids will be beneficial. After an initial skin consultation with you, we’ll assess your skin condition and the results you want to achieve and recommend a treatment plan to help you achieve your objectives in a gentle and effective way.
We’ll often recommended a skin care routine at home to prepare your skin for two weeks prior to a clinical peel. This will reduce the likelihood of a reaction, but most importantly will help achieve optimal results.
What Skin Conditions Do Clinical Peels Treat?
Clinical peels can effectively improve and treat the following skin conditions:
- Even the skin’s texture and tone
- Revive, rejuvenate and brighten dull looking skin
- Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Reduce the effects of sun damage
- Reduce or eliminate skin pigmentation, age spots and freckles
- Alleviate acne breakouts
- Reduce inflammation from acne and other skin related conditions
- Stimulate the production of collagen
Together we’ll discuss frequency of treatments and how many you will need to achieve the results you want. It is important to take care of the skin’s qualities and natural protective barrier, and we’ll discuss this in consultation with you.
