Dr Brooks began his medical journey in Victor Harbor in 1991.  Prior to this he spent five years in the public hospital system. Following this he subsequently went on to complete his General Practitioner training and has provided GP services to the local community as well as providing Obstetric, Anaesthetic and Accident and Emergency services both in and out of hours.

During his 30 years as a General Practitioner, Dr Brooks developed a keen interest in Skin Cancer Medicine.  Whilst continuing his work as a GP, he commenced further study in Dermoscopy and Skin Cancer Medicine and Surgery.  Throughout the duration of his study, he continued to provide GP services at his clinic as well as out of hours anaesthetic and emergency on call services both at the clinic and from the South Coast District Hospital.

In May 2017 Dr Brooks opened Skintech.  The first Skin Cancer clinic solely dedicated to providing skin cancer services in the form of skin checks and screenings, to treatments and surgical procedures, outside of the CBD in South Australia.

Whilst in a full time capacity in his role at Skintech, Dr Brooks has continued with ongoing training and upskilling of our own nurses, medical students, registrars and other Doctors that have joined the practice.  

Dr Brooks is also part of a rural anaesthetic group of four Doctors that provides anaesthetic services to visiting specialists, local obstetrics, accident and emergency  as well as 24 hour on call services to the South Coast District Hospital.

The opportunity to become involved in a research project, “Project Checkmate”, was presented to him in January 2023, where nurse-led skin check clinics provide services to rural Australians with the assistance of AI.

This project has provided an opening to give our Skintech Nurses the opportunity to train in Dermoscopy and they can now provide skin checks alongside our Doctors.  In recent times two nurse led clinics (under Doctors supervision) have been run in the Barossa Valley area with great success.

As the founder and leader of Skintech, Dr Brooks is proud of what the clinic has achieved so far.  The clinic now hosts 6 Doctors who all provide skin checks, spot checks, surgical and non surgical removal and treatments, Cosmetic Nurse who provides treatments and advice on skin care, skin health and anti-ageing treatments. 4 treatment room nurses including 2 Dermoscopy Nurses who assist in skin checks as well as our reception team.

When the opportunity arises, Dr Brooks enjoys cycling, outdoor adventures and relaxes with music and pretending he can play guitar.
